((I’m going to eat you children >.> Damn that Uchiha…

Warning: Its kinda mean ;~;))

Neji’s eyes subtly crept towards Hinata’s small hands fisting in her lap, he could sense her anger very well, although it wasn’t a common emotion Neji associated with his little cousin; he couldn’t blame her for feeling it…she had a lot to be angry about, and a part of Neji was glad she was able to show it in small doses, that way…she could vent herself, she could speak her mind and not be ‘too kind’…and she could probably get angry without taking things too far, the way Neji did, and still did to this day…Though not as much…

Although anger was one way of showing confidence, he hoped his words would be a better way, a way that didn’t include sadness, a way that would lift her spirits. And although she had bitten back a smile, Neji could see that light in her eyes when he had spoken, one that told Neji he had done the right thing. Even if he had dressed it up with pretty words, that didn’t matter, because it was true all the same.

Neji waited anxiously for Hinata’s answer…although this didn’t show on his face, Neji had gotten used to hiding his real emotions. For a moment, he wondered why he had been so open with them last night. The teen furrowed his brows to himself again, now was the worst time to be thinking about that! The way he felt, the way Hinata looked at him, and the way he…Yes, Neji REALLY had to stop thinking about it.

"I would...be........."

She would be…?

"happy....for Neji-san t-to train me."

Neji didn’t know whether to breathe a sigh of relief for that logical decision on Hinata’s part, or whether to smash his head against a wall, knowing what a struggle it would be having to spend so much time with her, a very very awkward struggle… In the end he did what he normally would do…absolutely nothing.

"Thank you Father... for your...patience...and understanding...and g-giving me...a...a chance t-to be taught...by Neji-san."

Haishi only nodded his head, not seeming too fazed, nor too pleased for that matter. But, Neji knew it had been what the older Hyuuga had wanted to hear.

“Very well, your training will start in a month’s time, I believe this will give you enough time to organise a training regime, Neji.”

“Yes Hiashi-sama,” Neji replied with a strict, well-practised bow to suit, just to keep up the formalities until he left this office.

“You are dismissed.” Hiashi spoke before rising to his feet. At this point Neji had only just spun on his heel to leave, but soon Hiashi stopped him in his tracks.

“Not you Neji. I still need to have a word with you.” The Clan’s leader turned to Neji and then to his daughter, his eyes narrowed, telling her to not ask questions and simply leave the two in peace.

Once the door had been shut, another cold rush of air swept through the room. Neji’s eyes moved upwards towards his uncle, displaying the slightest curiosity in them. Hiashi had already had a three-hour long talk with Neji today, what else could he possibly want to discuss?

“Is t-”

Before Neji had time to collect his thoughts, the teen had lost his breath as a vice-like grip captured his throat. The boy chocked and spluttered on his words, but in the end they couldn’t come out. Eventually Neji had realised it was infact Hiashi who had pinned him to the nearest wall, and was latching onto his throat with a callous palm. Neji’s eyes widened in disbelief and horror, what was going on?! Why was Neji being punished?!

“I am not a fool Neji,” Hiashi spoke through gritted teeth, allowing his grip to tighten on the pallid neck in his grasp. “And I am certainly not blind!”

A genius he may have been, But Neji was still clueless as to what Hiashi was on about. The brunette cast his gaze away, he wasn’t usually this frightened…but something on the lines of ‘doom’ seemed to be lurking in the air at that moment…It was too bad Neji couldn’t turn away completely…what with the hand chocking him against the wall and all…

That hand soon slid down, allowing Neji to take deep intakes of fresh air, as if he hadn’t had the stuff for weeks. Neji was too busy catching his breath to notice Hiashi’s cold eyes were rooted on…on Neji’s love bite.

Two words rang through the teen’s mind at that point:

‘I’m dead…’

Before he could say ‘I’m a caged bird’, Neji felt a familiar pain leap through his entirety, and all too soon he saw that cursed hand seal Hiashi was making.

“AAAUUURGGH!!!”

The genin soon found himself curled up on the floor, screaming in agony and clutching his forehead. The sound of his cries practically echoed through the hallways, but no other Hyuuga turned their attention to it, it was an occurrence that was too common to care about now; now that they had such a fearsome and violent ruler.

If Neji were less of a shinobi, he would’ve no doubt been crying, but he didn’t…because tears never solved anything. His fingers crawled to the roots of his hair, tugging and letting nails glide over his scalp in a vain attempt to douse out the pain.

“Who is she, Neji?”

To his amazement, it had actually worked…well…Hiashi had stopped the torture anyway, but probably only so that Neji had a chance to answer the question. He was about to get up from the floor, when a foot pushed him down with a loud thud, knocking the wind right out of Neji’s lungs… Neji was begging to regret being Hinata’s escort.

“Hiashi-sama…please-” He rasped, sounding so desperate, so un-like Neji…but that seal had a strange effect on people…

“Do not test my patience boy!” His foot pressed into Neji’s back harder, so now the boy’s lips were pressed against the floor; muffling his cries.

“You disgusting child…”

((OK, it doesn't look long, but it is long I swear!!!))

((eeehh >_< OOCness...I'm sorry...maybe I'm losing my touch T_T))

Hinata lifted her head up slowly, catching her father nodding his head, though he didn't seem to look any different. Inwardly, she faltered. Would he even have cared if she didn't say that or not? Did everything she did displease him? Hinata wondered if there was anything she could do to make him happy.

“Very well, your training will start in a month’s time, I believe this will give you enough time to organise a training regime, Neji.”
Hinata nodded her head silently as she turned to look at her cousin.

“Yes Hiashi-sama,” Hinata sat quietly with her hands, now relaxed in her lap.

“You are dismissed.” She watched Neji turn to leave, and deep inside she felt a little panicky. She didn't want to be here alone with her father! What if he were to ask her why she blushed? What if he asked her about last night? What if she accidently let something slip? She needed Neji to be with her to make sure she didn't mess up!

"Not you Neji. I still need to have a word with you."
Hinata heard her father's deep and hard voice. Her eyes suddenly widened with surprise as she looked up at her father then at Neji. Hiashi's eyes were narrow at her, and it made her shrink back into her shell, afraid. With a little bow, she got up quietly and quickly, heading towards the door, not looking at either of them.

Hinata closed the door and started to head back to her room, not knowing where else to go. Her head was lowered, watching her feet moving slowly through the silent hallway. She was surprised. What did her father want to talk to Neji about again. 'I thought Father had already spoken with Neji.' Her thin and dark brows were drawn together in a delicate frown. However, she didn't get far when an agonizing scream traveled through the hallway.

The hairs on the back of her neck rose and it felt as if her blood suddenly turned to ice. Hinata's white eyes widened, as her head snapped back to look down the hallway. 'That sounded like Neji.' Her heart raced and all the air rushed out of her lungs, leaving her breathless. She had never heard him scream before, but it sounded like his voice. Why would he be...screaming? Hinata suddenly gasped as her hands were quickly brought up to cover her mouth. 'It couldn't be! He wouldn't!'

Spinning on the balls of her feet, Hinata turned and raced back towards her father's office. Every step she took she could hear echoing off the walls, every breath she took sounded loud in her ears, every beat of her heart pounded painfully in her chest. She ran as quickly as she could, yet it seemed to take an eternity to get across the long hallway. Finally once she arrived, her hands gripped the door tightly.

"Who is she, Neji?" she heard her father growl harshly.

"Hiashi-sama...please-" hearing her stronger older cousin sounding so desperate made Hinata tighten her grasp on the door as she tensed her muscles to open it.

"Do not test my patience boy!" she heard her father say menacingly as she opened the door and looked at the scene before her. Neji on the ground with his long dark hair ruffled, a light sweat forming on his pained looking face. While her father had his foot pressing into Neji's back, muffling any kind of noises.

"You disgusting child..." Hinata clenched her teeth and shut her eyes tight fighting back the tears that threatened to fall, as her hands curled into fists.

"Stop! Stop it!" she cried, as she ran into the room. Not thinking about what she was doing, not thinking about what she was saying, as she rushed over to Neji. Covering his body with hers, effectively pushing her father's foot off of him. Hinata wrapped her arms over Neji's back, creating a barrier between him and her father. She could feel him trembling, and even though it was slight, just the thought of her cousin trembling made her want to cry. Nothing scared him, nothing frightened him, nothing made him tremble like this. Except an opponent, an enemy. Except the activation of his seal. Hinata's eyes, dotted with tears but hard with anger, snapped her head back to look at her father.

"Why did you activate his seal?! What was the cause for this kind of punishment?! He has done nothing wrong!" she yelled, not even taking the time to feel surprised at her loud voice. Not even realizing that she was yelling at her own father. Not even realizing how scared she was. All she knew was that she had to protect him. That was her promise, and a promise she made willingly, gladly. No one else would. Her father may favor him, but Neji was still just a Branch House member to him.

Hinata's hands slowly stroked Neji's back, in an effort to comfort him, to soothe his pain away. Though she doubted it would actually work, though she doubted he even wanted her help, she did it anyways. She knew whenever she was hurt, she felt better knowing that someone that cared for her was concerned. As one hand continued stroking his back, the other lightly stroked his long hair. But she was careful not to touch his head. She had touched his seal once, and he was angry that she did, so she never wanted to get close to it again. She did all this while she glared angrily at her father.

"You...you have no reason...to treat Neji-san this way." she softly, but her anger and protectiveness could be heard in her voice. She didn't stop to think of how differently she was acting...without fear. She didn't stop to think of the consequences of her actions. She didn't stop to think of how much more determined she looked, how much more confident she looked, how much more stronger she looked, when protecting someone she cared about from harm.

((It’s fine little chub ^-^))

He may have been taking loud shallow breaths, and his hearing may have been muffled by the fact he was being shoved into untarnished floor boards, but after a little while Neji had begun to hear footsteps thundering across the halls; frantic, swift footsteps that seemed to get louder and louder…Getting closer

If Neji were anyone else he would’ve been thanking his lucky stars that someone had heard him, and someone actually wanted to help him. But instead the teen squinted his eyes shut and wished her were somewhere else, anywhere else but here. It was embarrassing, shameful even, to be pushed against the floor by a being considered more important than yourself, putting you in your place…It would only be humiliating if someone actually got to witness this punishment….especially if that person was-

"Stop! Stop it!"

‘Hinata-sama…’

Before Neji could conjure the strength to stand on his own two feet, the Hyuuga heir was rushing to his aid. His half-lidded eyes came across hers, and soon enough the teen felt something covering his body. But it wasn’t something painful nor cold, it was something warm and soothing, it felt like that same warmth Neji had nestled into the previous night…infact…it was the same warmth; the same person. He should’ve been happy for it, he should’ve let her cradle him there and ease his unspoken fears, but when he saw tears prick in the corners of her eyes…Neji knew he was supposed to be her protector, not the other way round, it could never be the other way round.

"Why did you activate his seal?! What was the cause for this kind of punishment?! He has done nothing wrong!"

For the first time in this entire meeting (or entire day infact), Hiashi looked positively stunned, but…it wasn’t in a good way… His eyes had momentarily widened, and the hands that were about the create another hand seal fell to the man’s sides. He regained his posture, noticing that Neji had stopped trembling, and that his daughter was actually able to match his glare with her own. Neji too was stunned by Hinata’s new found confidence, and for a split moment, he wished it were him who had that strength she was currently oozing with.

Neji’s eyes closed for a second, allowing Hinata to gently stroke his back and hair, but then with the little dignity he had left he inched his body away, now sitting (or attempting to) on his knees. Neji did not enjoy being petted, for he didn’t like to think of himself as their ‘pet’, the Main Branch’s ‘pet’…even though deep down he knew that’s exactly what he was. He did not move away with a spiteful aura though, only one that said he had too much pride to allow Hinata to help him, it was bad enough she had witnessed Neji’s pain…He didn’t want sympathy, or pity…He didn’t need it. Neji had brought this punishment on himself, for not being able to control his emotions that night…

Even if Neji was stronger than Hinata, even if Neji managed to surpass Hiashi, even if Neji became the strongest shinobi in Konoha. Just one simple hand gesture, just one strike from the Main Branch was enough to break him. It sickened the young Hyuuga, knowing that all the power in the world would never protect him from those devastating hands, hands that Hinata would one day inherit…

He took a final glance at Hinata, noticing the power in her voice, the way she didn’t stutter or tremble…maybe he should’ve encouraged her further, but Neji knew she shouldn’t have even been here in the first place, it wasn’t fair on her…and in a more selfish aspect, if she found out why his seal was activated, would her benevolence make her tell Hiashi the truth? Would it result in greater punishment? Neji only dreaded to think…

While he was glad she stuck up for what she believed, to see her glaring so menacingly pained Neji…Surely this wasn’t a way for a father and daughter to act… Surely it was all wrong, it had to be wrong…The scene that unfolded in front of Neji’s eyes was both painful and heartbreaking, their relationship was truly awful. And while Neji remained expressionless on the surface, he was feeling bitter inside.

"You...you have no reason...to treat Neji-san this way."

Hiashi matched her glare with his own, pacing forwards towards Hinata, his footsteps were a slow, ominous pace, inching closer and closer until his shadow loomed over the two genins on the floor. He leaned down, only to grab his daughter by the ends of her hair and pull her up to his eye-level.

Never. Speak to me like that again.” He spat viciously. “Do not interfere with matters that don’t concern you, you foolish waste of space.” With that, Hiashi literally cast her to one side, letting his arm hurl her back, effectively throwing her to the ground a fair distance away.

“Hinata-!!”

Neji could say no more as his uncle leaned down to Neji, and it that point the genin’s mouth simply went dry. Hiashi pulled him up by his collar before removing the forehead protector that hid Neji’s shame. The mental clunked against the floorboards as its sound echoed off of the walls.

“You see what you are boy?” Hiashi asked mockingly, poking the green mark on Neji’s head. He gave the mark a good hard poke with each venomous word he spoke, causing Neji to flinch slighter under the cold fingertip. “Scum, that’s what you are. And I will not let you bring your filth into this household!! Do you understand?!”

It was Neji’s turn to glare, while at the time he felt angry, and mocked, Neji was also mentally laughing at the fact Hiashi couldn’t put two and two together. Surely…after seeing Hinata on top of him, and now the love bite, wouldn’t it all fit? But obviously not, Hiashi probably thought Neji had forced himself on her; Hiashi would never believe someone as meek and as innocent as Hinata would do something so scandalous…

But this was Hiashi…Hiashi barely knew his daughter, he never took the time to know her.

“Yes…” Although he had said it, Neji practically had to force out of his throat.

“It was a mistake,” Neji rasped, locking his gaze onto his uncles. “It will never happen again, but please…Don’t get Hinata-sama involved in this…It has, it has nothing to do with her…”

“I do not wish to see anything like this again, Neji.” Hiashi let go of the boy’s collar and stood up, back to being Mr. Impassive.

“Now leave, both of you.”

((Eh, I know I haven’t given you much to work with ^_^;;; sorry, but uuh, feel free to powerplay if it’ll move things along xDDD))

She could see the stunned and shock look on her father's face...it was an expression she couldn't ever remember seeing. Especially when he was looking at her. His usual impassive expression wiped clean by her outburst and the hands that were yet again going to punish Neji were dropped to his sides. In the back of her mind, she was slightly relieved, she had stopped him from activating Neji's seal a second time. However in a matter of a few moments, he had slid his emotionless mask back on his face.

Hinata's eyes flickered to behind her, feeling Neji's trembling slowing to a stop and withdrawing from her protective embrace. Moving to his knees she watched him with a corners of her eyes as he tried to draw himself up, his back straight. She withdrew her hands back to her sides, not offended. She knew he wouldn't want comfort, she knew he didn't want to be cradled or cared for, she knew he didn't or wouldn't want anything she could give him. Though he was from the Branch House, she knew his pride was as big and large as a Main House member.

She didn't pity him, she didn't sympathize for him, but she was sad for him. She would probably end up sheding the tears that he refused to cry. Seeing him glance back at her, she didn't see anything in his eyes. His emotinos were once again hidden from the world...that's when she knew he was feeling a little better. Though it saddened her a little, not being able to see what he was thinking or feeling, but it also relieved her, knowing he was coming back to his usual self.

Hinata's pearl eyes trailed back to her father's, to see a dark glare on his face...one that reminded her of the night they "trained" together. Of the night that her body was still healing from. Suddenly it felt as if all her strength left her, her courage and confidence slipping quickly out of her grasp, like water dripping from her hands. With every step he took towards her, her fear increased, her breath hitched, and her heart pounded. She gulped as he leaned down towards her. She winced as his hand came quickly towards her, but then gave a soft cry of pain as he viciously yanked her hair, pulling her onto her feet.

"Never. Speak to me like that again." he growled angrily. "Do not interfere with matters that don't concern you, you foolish waste of space." The pain his hand created felt more like a numbness compared to his harsh words. They were as sharp and as deadly as one of her kunai's, going straight to her heart. With a flick of his arm, he sent her flying back, landing onto the floor and her head making a loud thud sound. Her whole body hurt, it ache from her landing, and she could feel warm sticky liquid slowly coming down her forehead.

"Hinata-!!" she barely heard Neji calling her name as she fought to remain conscious. Tears streamed down her face from her pain...from his pain. She was able to win over her body to remain awake, but she felt as if she couldn't move. Crumbled in a small heap on the floor, all she could do was watch as her father roughly grab Neji by the collar, throwing aside his forehead protector. She watched as it landed not too far from her limp hand, and newly fresh tears began to fall, knowing how much it pained Neji to reveal his seal to the outside world.

"You see what you are boy? Scum, that's what you are. And I will not let you bring your filth into his household!! Do you understan?!"
she heard her father yell, wondering what exactly they were talking about. She wasn't back here in time to know. All she remembered was hearing a "Who is she?" and now her father was talking about filth? What in the world was he talking about?

"Yes..."
she heard Neji say, her delicate brows furrowing in a sad frown. She knew how much it cost him, how hard it was for him to say that. She knew, first hand, how much he hated the Main House. "It will never happen again, but please...Don't get Hinata-sama involved in this...It has, it has nothing to do with her..." Hinata's wet eyes widened with surprise. Her bottom lip started to tremble as she realized that he was trying to protect her. Sometimes she just wished that he would forget that promise and just think about himself. He had so much more to lose than her, his punishment would be so much harsher than hers...he should protect himself, and forget about her.

"I do no wish to see anything like this again, Neji." he father said as he let him go. Hinata's limp hand twitched with life as it slowly reached out for his forehead protector. Grabbing it, she slowly brought it to herself, stuffing it into her pocket as she struggled to get up.

"Now leave, both of you." Hinata put her hands under her, and gently, slowly lifted herself up. Her eyes gazed at the floor where some of her blood was smeared. Closing her eyes, she slowly stood on her wobbly legs. Not looking at Neji or her father, not saying anything, she made her way to the door. With every step she took her strength left her, she desperately fought unconsciousness, but her vision was getting blurry. Grasping the door tightly she leaned against the frame, panting.

Taking a deep breath, she shoved herself into the hallway, nearly falling onto the floor. Her world was spinning and her steps were uneven. She could feel the blood drip down off of her face and onto her clothes. Gasping for breath she struggled to make it to her room. She didn't know if anyone was behind her, she didn't know if Neji was following her, since her room was on the way to his. But she could feel her fast heartbeat and she could begin to see black spots. Finally arriving at her door, she weakly opened iy, but could go no further as she finally collapsed, half in her room and half in the hallways. Though her fall wasn't graceful, though the floor was still just as hard, at least this time she didn't go crashing into it...that was her final thought as she laid on the floor before darkness finally claimed her.

((OOC ahead >_<;;;))

All too quickly Neji was back on his feet, he didn’t want to spend another minute in Hiashi’s company, and although his legs still felt a little wobbly from sheer fear alone, he didn’t tremble. Neji was a Hyuuga of pride and dignity; he would not let Hiashi see him tremble if it was something that could be avoided. The tensai didn’t even take the time to look for his forehead protector, as much as it pained his to walk with a bare forehead, Neji would do it if this meant he could get away sooner.

From the corners of his eyes the teen witnessed smears of crimson on the floorboards, his eyes travelled up to where Hinata stood of shaky limps. Neji’s eyes almost wavered when he saw the blood trickle down her face over her half-lidded eyes, but…Neji would not waver his eyes, Neji would not show fear and sadness until he was alone where no-one could witness it.

He didn’t help Hinata out of the room, Hiashi would’ve no doubt shoved him away from her if he had, so instead the boy waited outside of the door until Hianta got there too. Normally Neji wouldn’t have bothered, but after that assault Hinata looked as though she would collapse at any moment, and Neji had promised to protect her…He knew he was making a complete mess of it though, Hinata had been hurt so many times due to Neji, a genius he may have been; but he was hopeless at keeping his promise it seemed.

“Hinata-sama,” He said though it was barely a whisper. The teen outstretched his arms to help her to her room, but the way she’d waver from side to side made it difficult to keep a good hold on her, especially when Neji didn’t want to get too close…every time he got close to her something bad was always lurking around the corner. It pained the boy to hear his cousin becoming short of breaths; gasping it in as if they’d be her last. Neji didn’t even want to think about that… He hated to admit to it, but he knew at the back of his mind it was his fault she was hurt right now, if only he could’ve been quiet…then they’d never be in this mess.

With plenty of struggle the two reached Hinata’s room. Neji had tried his best to keep her awake and help her, but it hadn’t been very easy since Hinata was obviously too weak to hear him, and the fact Neji had never been very good at helping people and being sincere in the first place…

He was about to go and fetch her some wet towels, anything that would remove the dry blood that not only tainted her face and clothes, but Neji’s mind too…that blood reminded him of the same substance he had forced her to choke on in the chuunin exams. Neji had never said it, but ever since his fight with Naruto he had regretted that moment of spite, rage and hatred, he wished it had never existed in him…but it was difficult to dispose of when you were caged and chained.

Unfortunately, he was cut off when Hinata eventually lost her consciousness, her figure fell limp and instantly Neji had reached out to grab her, he only managed just in time to save her from a nasty fall, but she was on the floor all the same.

Of course he was concerned about her health, but at that moment he seemed more worried about getting her into her room so that the blood wouldn’t stain the floor outside her room; the last thing Neji wanted was a bunch of suspicious Hyuuga’s in his face.

He laid his cousin on the bed, for someone like Neji he was being perhaps a little too careful about it, then again, touching her was awkward enough, he wanted to do this with as little physical contact as possible.

Half an hour passed. And by that time Neji hadn’t succeeded in finding his forehead protector; sure he couldn’t used Byakugan to scout around, but he still felt a little weary from having his curse seal activated, thus his forehead was covered in bandages instead, anything was better than nothing… He was still nursing Hinata at the time; sitting by her bedside and wiping the remainder of the dried blood from her forehead with a cold, wet towel. He didn’t go as far as to clean her clothes or change them though, for the simple fact that it would’ve been too awkward, far too awkward.... However, he had managed to tuck her into bed, Neji figured since he was the one who was supposed to protect her, he might as well do this for her. Just to redeem himself for all the times he had failed to keep his promise.

Neji was aware that Hiashi wouldn’t be stopping by anytime soon, the older Hyuuga was probably still fuming, and would probably be gone for a while to let off some steam, which gave Neji some time to treat Hinata without anyone having to find out about it.

He dabbed away the last traces of blood as his pallid eyes watched Hinata sleeping, looking much more peaceful without the red marks on her face. His hand idly moved to the mark on his neck and covered it with his palm as if that would miraculously make it disappear. Soon his eyes began to wonder again, not in a prying way; just for the simple fact he had nothing better to do. Soon enough his eyes came across the blue book and instantly he frowned…

Neji had a feeling she’d be reading it a lot sooner than he would’ve liked her to…

((Aaaww I just love OOC Neji ^0^))

She could breathe. She could breathe at a normal rate. She could breathe and whatever smell came to her small nose, was comforting, soothing...something familar. She was warm but not hot, lying down but not in too much pain. Her head hurt a little bit, and it was that small achy pain that drew her out of her slumber.

Fluttering her eyes slightly open, slowly getting use to the light that was shinning through the window and into the room. Squinting her eyes, she waited until her vision started to clear before looking around. Her eyes immediately found Neji sitting beside her bed, his head turned away, looking at whatever he found interesting at the moment to look at in her room. She remained quiet as her brows knite into a small frown. She couldn't remember how she got here in the first place.

Taking a silent but deep breath, she closed her eyes momentarily rewinding the memories in her mind to whatever happened last. She could remember trying to save him from her father...again. She could remember yelling at her father, glaring at him even, for what he had done to him. Hinata suddenly felt sick to her stomach as she also remembered being knocked to the ground, her head bleeding. Her father had done that...her own father. Opening her eyes once again, Hinata looked up at Neji's profile view.

'He must have helped me to bed.' She thought to herself, recalling that she never really made it herself. Hinata's eyes then flicked to his hand as he brought it up, rubbing the small bruise on his neck as if he could just rub it off. Hinata gulped and looked at him sadly, the bitter taste of guilt in her mouth.

"I'm sorry." she said softly, her voice slightly raspy. Clearing her through to make her voice go back to normal. "I...I'm sorry I did that...to you." she apologized her eyes on the mark she had made on him. Whatever was she thinking last night? How could she have been so thoughtless to give him such a mark? Someone, like her father, could see it and become suspicious. On that thought, how could she had done any of that stuff period? How could she have just...been so thoughtless to do any of the things they had done last night?

Now, more than ever, did she feel the awkwardness between them. Even more so than when they were at the monument. They were here, in her room, alone...it wasn't too different a situation last night...but now...the atmosphere between them was had so much tension...and not the type of tension between them from last night.

Hinata sighed deeply, sadly. She hated this strain between them. Just when she thought they could get past it, something else strained their relationship. First it was his hatred...then when he fought Naruto, something changed in him. It was as if he was actully trying to not hate her, trying to tolerate her. Then when they started to get along in the garden, she had to go and faint, resulting in him getting punished for just trying to help her. Then when they fixed things, having dinner and such, she had to destroy what they had fixed just to save him from her father...being forced to act just like all the other Main House members, treating him cruely...And then last night...all she wanted to do was say she was sorry. All she wanted to do was fix things again. All she wanted to do was try and get him to understand that she hadn't meant those mean things she had said to him. But then she had to stay...she just had to ask him if he was going to kiss her...and she just had to kiss him back. What was wrong with her?

And now...because of her...there was yet again, an awkwardness between them. There was a space between them. And whenever she tried to get close to him, whenever she tried to cross that bridge, they would get burned. It was as if life...fate...did not want them to get close...did not want them to bridge that gap between them.

Hinata lifted her head slowly, it ached painfully, shooting down her back and through the rest of her body, but she ignored it. Moving slowly, as to not aggrivate it any more, she scoot back and leaned back against the wall at the head of her bed. She didn't look at him, she couldn't. She had built this gap between them...yet she was at a loss at how to fix it this time. Last night was all so new to her, she had never dealt with anything like it...and though she didn't want to say what she was going to say and though it wasn't true, she felt she needed to say it...for him.

"I'm...sorry...again...for...for last night. If...if I wouldn't have gone to your room in the first place...it never would have happened." she said softly, her small hands lightly clutching at her covers as her eyes looked out her window, gazing at the blue sky outside. "I...I'm sorry for...forcing you." she said with difficulty, but she felt it true. If she woudn't have kissed him back, if she wouldn't have touched him, if she wouldn't have edged him on by doing a number of things...maybe it wouldn't have happened. Maybe they would have been their normal selves today, maybe the fight in her father's office wouldn't have happened. Maybe he wouldn't have had his seal activated. If it wasn't for her, they wouldn't been in this mess. Why did she always...always, have to mess things up?

((Yay!!!! I love pancakes…^-^…W00t =_=

Warning: MY MOST OOC POST YET!!! SAPPINESS AHEAD AND ARRRRGGGG!!!! >.<;;;

Damn you Hinata and you’re…you’re…love for corniness >.>;;;))

Neji’s eyes felt as though they had been fixed upon the flat, blue object forever, but Neji wasn’t thinking about the book, his mind was somewhere else; remembering how it felt to receive this red mark upon his neck, and how it had felt to give Hinata her own. He had been so lost in his thoughts that Neji failed to notice the young girl’s eyes fluttering open and being welcomed into consciousness by the fresh air and light streaming in from the window.

"I'm sorry."

Caught of guard a little Neji almost jumped up at her words; it wasn’t like him to be getting this spaced out, or to be getting so on edge… But in a situation like this who could blame him? Anyone could walk in, and whenever that happened, people would always jump to the wrong conclusions; much to Neji’s disdain.

“Hinata-sama,” He greeted formally, the momentary surprise on his face soon washed away to gaze at the weary-looking Hinata. His brows furrowed at her apology when it had finally sunk in, Hinata may have been the one to mark him, but it wasn’t entirely her fault. Neji didn’t mind taking digs at Hinata, but he wouldn’t do it when she didn’t deserve it, Neji had been the careless one to leave it on show for at least a moment, he had been the careless one for initiating last night’s occurrences…In a way he figured both were to blame, but he wouldn’t let Hinata carry the burden of guilt alone.

"I...I'm sorry I did that...to you."

His hand slowly moved down and revealed the red patch against his porcelain skin. Unlike back at the monument, Neji didn’t seem too uneasy about letting her see what she had created again. Perhaps because they were now behind closed doors, and it wasn’t as if they had anything else to hide from each other physically… His hands rested in his lap as he watched Hinata with a forlorn stare. Somehow he’d need to lighten the heavy load off of her seemingly frail shoulders, but how?

“Don’t be.” He retorted, trying his best to forget that the patch of red was on show, and that he only had bandages to cover his seal. At that moment he wanted to join her in making sad, disheartened sighs…But Neji had to be the strong one in this, he had to be the protector; that was his duty, his fate…

Soon Neji heard the rustle of sheets, and instantly reached out to Hinata’s shoulder, only lightly though, he didn’t like touching her in the first place; this was merely a sign of formal concern. Of course he cared for her well-being, but there was so much history between them that made befriending Hinata seem pretty much impossible.

“Try not to move too much, you’re still injured.” He tired to tell her, it seemed he was always correcting whatever she did; and if he were to be training her there would probably be a lot more of it.

"I'm...sorry...again...for...for last night. If...if I wouldn't have gone to your room in the first place...it never would have happened."

Of course what she said was true, but it wasn’t the entire truth…she hadn’t been the one to get too close for comfort, she hadn’t been the one to make the first move… Neji’s eyes looked away for a moment as Hinata gazed out of her window, for a moment he wondered what this achy pain was in his chest, was it sadness? Hurt? Neji didn’t know, and the thought of not knowing only made that pain worse. The teen didn’t show it on his face though, he couldn’t let Hinata know he was hurting on the inside when she was just as torn up if not more so.

“You can’t change the past Hinata-sama.” He explained solemnly, adding a little more reality to the atmosphere. “What’s done is done, I know it’s difficult to forget-” Heck, Neji knew it was one of the hardest things in the world! But luckily an orange-clad shinobi had shed some light onto Neji’s doom days, and helped Neji to forget his past grudges and move on. “But there’s no point dwelling on it now.”

"I...I'm sorry for...forcing you."

“You didn’t force me,” He explained. “Stop telling me you’re sorry.” His eyes son became more stubborn as they narrowed, Neji just couldn’t take all this meek apologising!

“I don’t regret what happened.” He finally managed to choke out, it almost pained him to do so; to admit to something like that was humiliating for Neji, but what else could he do to calm her and to make things right? Well…as right as they ever could be…

“I got to see a confident side of you, one I hadn’t known existed. But…I am glad to have witnessed it. I’m glad you were able to change yourself.” Before Hinata could see the softened look in his eyes Neji had risen to his feet; feeling his presence here was no longer necessary. His eyes went back to a cold stare; his soft words had practically been straining his voice, Neji simply wasn’t used to displaying kindness. Not many had shown him true kindness, so he had never learned how to provide it for others, but today Hinata had gotten herself injured just to save him, last night she had given him comfort and security that he would never admit to needing… This was the least he could offer her.

He walked towards the door, opening it so that it became slightly ajar.

“Hinata, I can only truly help you if you are confident in yourself. If I could make you confident last night…”

Had Neji forgotten to add the suffix? It didn’t seem like something he would do…

“Then I don’t regret it.”

With that he opened the door completely and left, hoping that Hinata would accept his words, and also hoping that he would find his forehead protector…

((Pancakes are good, but I like French toast better ^0^

w00t! OOC! You know how much I love OOC Neji and sappiness! ^^;

Oh please, you know you love me and OUR love of corniness ^-^))

Hinata’s soft pearl eyes widened slightly with surprise and confusion at why he suddenly decided to reveal the mark she had made on him. It wasn’t red anymore, like last night. Instead it was a darker color, more of a purplish coloring, more like a bruise. She had never realized what exactly would happen when she had done that. She didn’t know what it would be like or what it would look like the next day. She had never before received or gave a love bite before…she had never even seen one before. But seeing it now, all she could think about was that it was now a bruise…a bruise caused by her.

“Don’t be.” She heard him say. She didn’t reply, he could tell her all he wants that she shouldn’t be guilty for doing that to him, but that wasn’t going to wash away what she was feeling.

Feeling the light touch of his hand on her shoulder made her sadder inside. How she longed for comfortableness that they had with each other last night. Not that she wanted to repeat what happened, or at least she told herself with a stern voice, she just already missed being able to touch him with ease. To be able to hold someone, just holding them. Being wrapped up in someone’s arms just felt so nice, like she was cared for, like he cared for her…at least a little bit. She remembered walking through the streets of Konaha and watching families hugging, kissing, laughing…just having fun, being comfortable with just touching one another. She wished her family could’ve been like that.

“Try not to move to much, you’re still injured.” Neji told her, she would have nodded her head as a reply, but since it hurt just to hold it up, she just blinked as she looked at him. She tried to smile, at least a little, to show him that she was grateful to him for taking care of her, for watching over her while she was hurt, but smiling seemed like such a difficult exercise right now. Smiling seemed to be a strenuous action, that she couldn’t even summon the corners of her mouth up.

“You can’t change the past Hinata-sama. What’s done is done, I know it’s difficult to forget…” Hinata couldn’t stop the tinge of light pink that gently colored her cheeks, “But there’s no point dwelling on it now.” Hinata looked down at her lap, listening and thinking about what he had said. He was right, there was no point, she can’t change what happened between them…but…still…

“You didn’t force me. Stop telling me you’re sorry.” She watched as his eyes narrowed, seeing that slight annoyance that always seemed to be apart of his aura.

“I’m sorry…” she said softly, then widened her eyes as she gasp slightly, “I…I mean…umm alright.” She tried amending, but old habits die hard. It wasn’t easy to not apologize to him when she had annoyed him.

“I don’t regret what happened.” She heard him blurt out. She could feel the blood and heat rise to her face, making it bright red at his words. He didn’t regret it? Did that mean…did that mean he liked it? Did that mean he enjoyed what they did? Her heart pounding quickly in her chest, how was a girl supposed to react to that?

“I got to see a confident side of you, one I hadn’t known existed. But…I am glad to have witnessed it. I’m glad you were able to change yourself.” This wasn’t helping her face to go back to its normal color. Hinata’s breath quickened slightly, these were the sweet words that were similar to those he spoke to her last night. This was the voice that whispered softly in her ear as he touched her with gentle yet ardorus hands. This was the side to him she never knew existed or almost believed wasn’t there. But it was there, and she did feel honored to be among the few that he showed it to, but she was confused. Oh so confused.

She watched him out of the corner of her eyes, too scared to look at him face on. He suddenly got up quickly and headed towards the door. She didn’t say or do anything to stop him, still too shocked by what he had said to her. But when he stopped at her door she looked up, wondering at his pause.

“Hinata, I can only truly help you if you are confident in yourself. If I could make you confident last night…” Hinata’s face that just started to cool off, flamed up again, “Then I don’t regret it.” He left quickly, leaving her speechless and red as a tomato. Talk about not being able to forget, now she definitely never will. He just had to bring up memories of just how he got her to be confident in herself. But, did he even understand how he helped?

People say that one should believe in one’s self, to have faith in one’s self. But, it was certainly difficult to do that, when no one else believed, when no one else had faith. How was she to be confident in herself when no one else had confidence in her. In the Chuunin exams, she had gained confidence because Naruto had confidence in her. And last night she had confidence because the look in Neji’s eyes, made her feel like she could do no wrong. For once in her life, she had felt beautiful, but that was only because he looked at her like she was.

Propelled by some unnamed emotion that she didn’t bother to think about, she shot out of bed. Her head immediately pounded with pain, her eyes glazing over as she saw spots swarm about her vision. Her hands shot out as she frantically reached for anything to hold onto, her hands roughly connected with her doorframe. She grasped it tightly, slightly gasping for her small struggle to stay on her feet.

“Neji-san? Neji-san?!” she called, the spots still overtook her vision, momentarily blinding her. “Neji-san wait!” she called again, not too loudly incase she attracted unwanted attention. She blinked several times, trying to rid herself of those spots, angry with herself. Why did she always have to be the one with a problem?

((I warned you, it was corny...and sorry I didn't give you much to write with. If you want I can change it.))

((ZOMG FRENCH TOAST!!! *drools* @____@

Well I’m glad, cause you’ll probably see more of it >.>

….Fine…I love you and OUR corniness =_=;))

Neji walked silently through the hallways, unlike Hinata he walked with his head held high and took long pronounced strides. It hadn’t been that long since his curse seal was activated, and he didn’t have his forehead protector on to display his worth as a shinobi, but Neji was confident nevertheless. If you were a Hyuuga you had to be confident, that was the only way of survival, and even then…you could get your fair share of hardships. How Hinata could cope being so timid was beyond him…

The silence was soon disturbed by the sound of swifter footsteps, so similar to the ones that rang through Neji’s mind when he was being pushed against the floor. He didn’t bother to turn when the sound of palms clapping against the doorframe could be heard, he assumed it was none of his business and continued to walk, that was, until…His name had been called by a somewhat distressed voice.

“Neji-san? Neji-san?!”

Quickly he spun on the balls of his feet, only to witness Hinata’s frame leaning out of the door, not looking too perky; quite the opposite infact…

“Neji-san wait!”

His eyes narrowed though only slightly, what was she playing at running around like that!? She would only be hurting herself, and if that wasn’t bad enough she could’ve called upon unwanted attention too. The two were lucky that the hallways were empty… Neji soon found himself jogging towards her room again, but now he didn’t look as concerned, only irked by her actions, unfortunately, a protector had to protect, even if it wasn’t in his best interests.

Before she could fall or black out again Neji locked his hands over her upper arms and gave her a cold, hard look. He had poured out his feelings far too much today it seemed, and all Neji wanted to do was get back into his reserved old self, but Hinata wasn’t exactly helping when he was consistently having to help her. He supposed he owed it to her though, she had after all, interrupted Hiashi’s punishing, and she had given Neji a blissful taste of pleasure last night. His expression didn’t change, but he wasn’t feeling so irritated anymore.

His hands lowered to her waist, not even taking the time to think about what he was doing, the genin lifted her over his shoulder and walked into the room with Hinata to put her back onto the bed. Now he didn’t act so wary about touching her, he really didn’t feel as though he had a choice, he rarely had a choice in this household.

Once he had put her down the male took a seat at the edge of the bed, not allowing his eyes to leave hers. They showed a distinguishable sternness in them, but not an angry one, if anything it was more of a concerned look.

“I tell you to not move too much, and then you decided to run around and get yourself all worked up! Was it that difficult to understand?” He scolded, almost sounding parenting again, but he really couldn’t help it when Hinata kept getting herself into these situations.

After a moment his gaze softened, he knew he had no right to speak to Hinata that way, she wasn’t supposed to take orders from someone of the main branch, she could do what she liked, she could call for him whenever she wanted, she could ask anything of him and he would have to give it to her. But Hinata was not that type of person, she was too sincere, she wasn’t a natural leader. But even though Neji had ordered her to do something, he had only done it for her own safety…

A small sigh parted his lips, his eyes saddened a little and his voice returned to its usual monotone.

“Why did you call me back anyway?” He asked in a solemn voice whilst allowing his hands to fall back into his lap.

((Please don't shoot/stab/poison/punch/kick/slap/kill/harm me for being SO late. I know, and I wanted to reply back so many times, but I like to take me time replying to you because I want it to be good. But there was an unexpected project that I had to do/finish and then there was so many exams and papers to write. I had been SO busy...so please don't hate me ;_;))

Her head was pounding and pulsing with pain that shot through her entire body. She closed her eyes tight to try and push back her pain and clear her vision. She wasn't sure if Neji heard her or not, and she kind of hoped he didn't. He would probably scold her for being so foolish by shooting out of bed and not taking care of herself. Groaning softly, Hianta brought one had to her head, rubbing it gently. The pounding in her head seemed so extreme it like she could almost hear it. Opening her eyes, she realized the pounding she thought she was hearing was only Neji jogging back to her. For a second she felt relieved that her headache wasn't that bad, but then seeing the annoyed and irked expression on his face, she suddenly wished that it was her headache she had heard instead of Neji.

But before she could say or do anything Neji suddenly gripped her upper arms tightly an gave her a cold hard look that made her feel ashamed. She didn't mean to annoy or upset him. Maybe she should have just keep her mouth shut. Then without warning, his hands lowered to her waist, making her blush crazily and bringing back certain memories of last night.

"Ah!" she cried softly when she was suddenly thrown over his shoulder. "Neji-san, put me down!" she cried as her legs wriggled slightly and her arms wrapped tightly around his waist, scared that she would fall. It wasn't that she didn't trust him to not drop her, she just figured with her luck she would fall anyways. She shut her eyes tightly in pain as the blood rushed to her head while she was upside down.

All of a suddenly the blood stopped rushed to her head as Neji brought her back over his shoulder and laying her back down on her bed. Unfortunately her face was still crimson at the unexpected action. Sitting back where she was originally she watched Neji taking a seat on the edge of her bed. His eyes conveyed his hard sterness.

"I tell you not to move too much, and then you decide to run around and get yourself all worked up! Was it that difficult to understand?"
he scolded her. Hinata lowered her head and started down at her hands in her lap. A deep dull pain starting to form in her chest. It must be difficult for him...to always having to take care of someone who always messed things up. Why couldn't she do anything right?

"But I...I didn't mean...I didn't mean to..." she stopped midsentence. He was right, he did tell her not to move too much. And she didn't listen. It was her fault she was in the condition she was in anyways.

"I'm sorry you always have to take care of someone like me." she whispered sadly, biting her lips, refusing to cry in front of him. She wished she wasn't always a screw up. She heard him sigh softly, and the sound of it made her feel worse. Sometimes she wished that he was never given the role of her protector...then he wouldn't always have to look out for her.

"Why did you call me back anyways?" he asked with his usual monotone and solemn voice. Hinata blinked, wondering why she did call him in the first place. For some reason she couldn't remember. Her heart started to pound quickly and her hands itched to come together and releave her anxiousness. If Neji found out that she couldn't remember why she called him back, he would be so upset with her. She gulped guiltily as she clenched her hands tightly on her jacket. Her left hand suddenly felt something hard in her pocket. Hinata's eyes widen as she remembered why she wanted him to wait.

Reaching her hand into her pocket, she could feel the cool temperature of his head protector on her small slender fingers. Slowly she pulled it out of her pocket. Looking down at it, she traced the Konaha leaf design on it, before she stretched out her arm towards him, her palm up revealing the black head protector.

"This belongs to you." she said quietly as she handed it back to him. She hoped he wouldn't be upset with her for taking it. She couldn't remember why she took it in the first place. At the time it seemed like a good idea, like she didn't want him to forget it or something along those lines. But now, as she looked back on it, he never would have forgotten it in the first place. It was so much a part of him, she didn't know what she was thinking.

"I um...I...just...wanted to give it back to you...And...I'm sorry for what Father did...to you. Was...was it...about...about...us?" she asked meekly, a light tinge of pink coming to her cheeks. If they were talking about what they had done last night...then she needed to be punished just as much as him. She hated the thought of Neji suffering alone, when it was also her fault...when it was only her fault.

((Damn it!!! You mean I can’t do ANY of those things? *pouts* xDD Aww bless, you don’t havta be sorry, it’s always worth the wait- and that sounded wrong >_>))

"Neji-san, put me down!"

He didn’t listen, and instead let a small smirk crawled onto his lips. Well, at least she was being a little more feisty than usual, although it did mean he had to lock his arms around her a little tighter to stop her from wriggling away. The smirk had quickly vanished when he felt her arms lock around his waist from her upside down position; to say it made Neji blush was an understatement, but he quickly shrugged it off upon reaching her bed. He had to get back to serious mode if she were to pay any attention to what he said. And even though she had cast her gaze away and her once colourful cheeks had dulled again, Neji knew she was listening to every word he said.

"But I...I didn't mean...I didn't mean to..."

Neji barely took notice of what she was saying, mainly because she always spoke that way; they were just empty babberings to him. And Thus, Neji didn’t take any notice, although it had been difficult when it looked as though she were about to cry again. No matter how many times he saw her cry, it would pain him each time he did, even if he wouldn’t admit it out loud; inside it hurt…But he had to be stern with her or else she’d never learn!

That small moment of sympathy washed away when Hinata brought her hands together and began to hesitate. The brunette could feel his patience running out, and slowly his eyes began to narrow.

That was until her hands dug into her pockets and Neji found his eyes trailing down to her small hands that held out the forehead protector. For a moment he seemed puzzled, he hadn’t even seen her pick it up, and why would she have picked it up? It took him a while to register these thoughts before Hinata’s voice snapped him out of his gaze on the object.

"This belongs to you."

With that he reached out for the metal plated cloth and proceeded in tying it over his bindings. “Thankyou.” He replied in a tone that was softer than usual, and with a half-smile on his lips when he looked back up at her. He was grateful she had taken it for him…he always scolded her for being too kind, but not this time- this time he was actually glad of it.

"I um...I...just...wanted to give it back to you...And...I'm sorry for what Father did...to you. Was...was it...about...about...us?"

The half smile…, which wasn’t much of a smile in the first place soon vanished at what she had said next. It was true, it was about them, and just the thought of it also made Neji blush, though his probably wasn’t as obvious as Hinata’s.

“Hinata, stop apologising.”

He couldn’t tell her it was partially her fault though, the last time she took the blame for something, well…she still had the bruises to show it, Neji had seen them all to vividly last night. He couldn’t let her go through that again, and Hinata being Hinata, would no doubt go to Hiashi, and seek her own punishment. Neji couldn’t let that happen, he didn’t want to break his promise again.

“No, it’s really none of your concern. Please don’t worry about it.” He tried to explain, hoping Hinata would simply leave it at that.

“Right now, its best to put this behind us.” He stated bluntly, knowing that in a month’s time she’d have some hefty training to do, she needed to focus on that.

He got up again and walked to the door. This time however he turned around and said a more formal ‘goodbye’ and told her to get some rest, there was not room here for sweet words to make her feel better, Neji just couldn’t be that person. He couldn’t be Naruto.

And with that, He left.

((You can just tell I could be bothered near the end xDDD soooo, new one?))
